Geospatial Software Engineer

Hello, I am Athanasios Kasampalis, a geospatial software engineer based in Thessaloniki, Greece. I hold an Integrated Master's degree in Forestry and Environmental Sciences and an MSc in Ecology and Conservation Biology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

My academic background, combined with my strong interest in informatics and computer programming, led me to specialise in geospatial technologies. I focus on the technical aspects of handling large datasets, managing spatial databases, and developing robust mapping solutions using open-source tools.

I currently work as a Software Engineer at AlongWave, where I develop and deploy full-stack geospatial web applications for marine-weather and oceanographic data products. My work includes interactive mapping interfaces, backend services and APIs, cloud infrastructure, and data workflows that transform scientific datasets into map layers and animation-ready visualisations.
